The Scythians flourished across the Pontic steppe from 900 to 200 BCE. The Enaree (as they were known to the Greeks) were shamans of the goddess Argimpasa. According to Herodotus the Enaree were the descendants of Scythians who pillaged the temple of Aphrodite as Ascelon and were therefore afflicted with a “female” sickness (later referred to as the “disease of the Scythians”).
