Cabral, Camille (1944 – ) Caeneus An ostensibly cisgender female mythological character in Greek mythology who was abducted and raped by the god Poseidon. She was so distraught afterward that she asked Poseidon to turn her into a man so that she would never be wronged again. It is noted that Virgil, in the Aeneid, recounts that Aeneas saw Caeneus in female form in a section of the underworld known as the Fields of Mourning, having been returned to that form by the Fates. Cassandra, Lady (4.99/4763/A/15 – )
Recurring Doctor Who antagonist. Voiced primarily by Zoë Wanamaker. It is hinted in “The End of the World” that Lady Cassandra was transgender, as she talks about “the time when she was a little boy”. However, the episode “New Earth” contradicts this, as when Lady Cassandra possesses the Tenth Doctor, she acts surprised to be in a male body. Additionally, the non-canon reference book Doctor Who: Monsters and Villains seems to lead some credence to the theory that Lady Cassandra is transgender, by providing her deadname.

Christina
Christina, Queen of Sweden (18 December 1626 – 19 April 1689)
Ruler of the Swedish Empire from 1632 until her abdication in 1654. Her birth was complicated, as due to an astrological conjunction it was thought that she would be assigned male at birth. Her birth was not immediately announced in part because of the confusion surrounding her assigned sex. She was first thought to be a boy as she was described as “hairy” and it was said that she screamed “with a strong, hoarse voice”. Christina later wrote in her autobiography that “[d]eep embarrassment spread among the women when they discovered their mistake”. Her father, the king, went so far as to state: “She’ll be clever, she has made fools of us all!”. Buckley and others have speculated that this confusion may have been because of a genital abnormality or intersex condition. Her bones were later examined in 1965, but no signs of any intersex condition were identified.
From an early age, Christina preferred dressing in clothes thought more typical of men at the time and her manner of education was more in line with that of men as well. She later wrote in her autobiography that she “despised everything belonging to [her] sex, hardly excluding modesty and property. I could not stand long dresses and only wanted to wear short skirts.”
This treatment stemmed from her father, the king, specifically giving orders that Christina should be brought up as a prince, and not a princess. Further, Christina took the oath as king, not queen, in part due to her father’s insistence. Growing up, she was referred to the “Girl King”.
Later in life, she turned down various suitors, leading to some of her counselors labeling her as lesbian (or the equivalent term at the time), due in part to her manner of dress. Christina told her councils that “I do not intend to give you reasons, [I am] simply not suited to marriage,” telling them that she would stay in Sweden only if they never again asked her to marry.
In February 1654, Christina told her council of her plans to abdicate. The reasons for her abdication are unknown, although it is theorized that her plan to convert to Catholicism and growing civil unrest and discontent in reference to her rule were related. Others, such as Buckley, have stated that it may have been in order to live openly as a man or to engage in lesbian relationships without worrying about her council.
Following her abdication, she dressed in men's clothes and, calling herself Count Donha (the name of one of her companions), she left Sweden. As she crossed over to the Danish side of a stream, she exclaimed that she was “free at last”. In the years after her departure, she rarely, if ever again, dressed as a woman, tending to dress as a man. She strapped a sword to her side and deepened her voice while speaking as well. However, it is not clear if she ever took a consistent male alias or name.
Later, Christina wrote in a letter contemplating the beauty of a female acquaintance that she [Christina] would wait “some happy reversal that will change” her “sex”.

cisgender ideal
Matthews, Donna Lynn. “Definitions” (May 1999). Donna’s Hideout. Donna Lynn Matthews. [Notes that “[t]he expression Cisgender Ideal was coined in 1996 by Laura Blake, a transgenderist from Canada… The Cisgender Ideal is that notion that gender is a binary system and that sex and gender must align themselves. The Cisgender Ideal states that all males are men and all females are women, implying that a transgender identity is not a real identification. It supports and enforces the notion that the transgendered are mentally ill. By categorizing them as sick, the transgendered are accounted for in a way which doesn't challenge the binary gender system. The transgendered really are men and women as the Cisgender Ideal defines them, they're just sick or confused (or some other marginalizing label.)”.]

cissexual
Referring or designating someone who is not transsexual. This term has fallen out of favor as “transsexual” has been slowly replaced by “transgender.” Generally, the term “cisgender” is used more commonly.
German sexologist Volkmar Sigusch is believed to have coined the term as zissexuell as a neologism formed from transsexuell (transsexual) in his 1991 two-part article “Die Transsexuellen und unser nosomorpher Blick” (“Transsexuals and our nosomorphic view”). He later included the term in his 1995 work “Transsexueller Wunsch und zissexuelle Abwehr” (“Transsexual desire and cissexual defense”). It is unknown if the English term was coined independently.

computer programmer stereotype
One of the main stereotypes about trans women (and occasionally extended to all AMAB trans people) which claims that such individuals tend to gravitate toward computer-based or -focused careers. As one Twitter user put bluntly in 2019: “theres [sic] 5 main archetypes of trans girls: art, drugs, programming, anime and straight”.
The stereotype seems to have been first recorded by Laub and Fisk in 1974 which noted that the “[o]bservation of the male-to-female patient group showed them… to be interested in mathematics and computer sciences” (p. 399). It is notable that during the era many of these trans women were entering (or re-entering) the workforce, approximately 30-50% of computer programmers were women, with there even being a Cosmopolitan issue released in 1967 with the title “The Computer Girls”.
In 2018, computer scientist Karla O’Brien theorized that a sense of escapism existed for trans people in video games and that works such as Sense8 and The Matrix forwarded trans characters or trans allegories in relationship to computers.
Several well-known trans women have played significant roles in the development of technology and software in the 20th century, including, but not limited to, Lynn Conway (inventor of generalized dynamic instruction handling and a form of internet-based infrastructure for rapid prototyping and short-run fabrication of large numbers of chip designs), Mary Ann Horton (significant contributor to Berkeley UNIX, creator of the first email binary attachment tool, co-designer of the major performance upgrade to Usenet known as B News), Sophie Wilson (one of the designers of the BBC Micro and ARM architecture), and Wendy Carlos (winner of three Grammy Awards in relationship to her development and use of the Moog synthesizer).

On page 146, it is noted that “there are also reasons to believe that this principle was involved in the selection of the cuut…, sex inverts, or transvestites. There is a rumor to the effect that the Cahuilla used to select male children for survival according to penis size. The Luiseño were richer and may have relegated their ‘weaker’ male youngsters to the status of cuut. This selection may have been regional, for Torquemada… mentions the ‘robusticity’ of the ‘Canalino’...” On the subsequent page it is noted that “the term pumelum, [was] applied to the membership of the secret war society… It is fairly certain that with the probable exception of the cuut, ‘transvestites’ (ordinarily the Luiseño males wore no clothing at all), the entire male population of the rancheria was organized into a permanent secret war society.” Finally, in the Appendix II: Glossary, on page 186, it is noted that ‘cuut’ translates to “[t]ransvestite”.]

… among the Southern Paiute
Term used differently among the Southern Paiute, who speak Colorado River Numic, another Uto-Aztecan language. Rendered in Latin characters a kwit˙u-, kwit, qwit˙ᴜ-n, etc. meaning “anus” or “buttocks”. From this the term kᴡɪtu’-n˙aïγïʀï appears to be derived, which has been translated as “anus-copulator, pederast”. Compare the Nahuatl cuiloni, which has been translated variously as “sodomite”, “homosexual male”, etc. Apparently no relation to the Southern Paiute terms tüwasawuts and ma:ai’pots.
