Introduction
What is the difference between an organization and a group?
Types of Organizations
Businesses
Businesses on lgbtDB that are LGBTQIA+-related as classed as follows:
- Identity-related business: A business entity that has a relationship to that identity. For example, a transgender-related organization could be anti-transgender, transgender-owned or transgender-focused.
- Anti-identity business: We NEVER make the determination of whether a business is "anti-" an identity, even if it seems obvious. Please cite other sources that use this designation, such as the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) or applicable news or activist organizations that state this.
- Identity-owned business: A business is considered as owned by individuals of a particular identity group if a majority of the ownership (more than 50%) is of that identity group. For example, a business is considered lesbian-owned if 50% or more of its ownership are lesbians.
- Identity-operated business: A business is considered as operated by individuals of a particular identity group if a majority of those that operate the business (more than 50%) are of that identity group.
- Identity-focused business: A business is considered as focused on a particular identity group as clientele or customers if they advertise themselves as such, usually through statements to news media. For example, a bar that advertises itself as a queer bar would usually be considered as a queer-focused business.
