Accounts
Creating an Account
In order to create an account, click "Create account" in the top right-hand part of the screen. Once at the "Create account" page, enter a username and password. Then confirm that password and enter an email address. You can also provide a real name (optional, although it may make the process of verifying your account faster). Then, solve the provided CAPTCHA and click "Create your account".
Shortly after, you should receive an email to the email address you provided when creating your account. After you verify that email, please be patient as an administrator reviews your application. If your application is determined to very likely be spam, it will be discarded. If it is believed that your account it genuine, you will be accepted as a contributor.
User Groups
Currently, all users are added to the user group "Users" by default.
Adding Content
Scope
The primary scope of lgbtDB is content that is LGBTQIA+-related or content that is necessary to describe other content that is LGBTQIA+-related.
Adding an item
When adding an item, it is a good idea to add an "instance of" property. Most "instance of" properties should have a reference, if possible. For an example, see, The L-Shaped Room, which is an instance of a film. Common "instance of" properties to add include:
- human person, for a person who is a human being (no need for a citation here, we trust you on knowing who is human)
- film
- book
- gay bar
- pronoun set
- gender identity

For the time being, please do not create new properties without administrator approval.

Currently, even though enabled, lgbtDB does not use schemas. If you would like to discuss creating one, please discuss with an administrator first.

Formalization
- Currently (as of 11 April 2025) we are working to detangle SKOS- and OWL-mapped entities to allow for a larger degree of formalization within the vocabulary; this make take some time but it should ultimately make terms at lgbtDB much more usable in the context of a vocabulary and as an ontology (in progress)

- We are making a huge push to include resources from multiple bibliographies in many languages. See here for the main bibliographic index and please start adding and annotating sources!

- Add all terms from These Words Are Disappearing in the New Trump Administration using U.S. government flagged term (2025), and for similar lists for term on list to be removed from any CDC-authored manuscript (2025), term to be banned on NSA websites and internal network pages (2025), word flagged in search of current NSF Awards (2025), and ascribed DEI category (for P1053, it should not only be added to individual terms but all individual grants in the "database" (i.e. spreadsheet document) represented here
