Project:Cataloging
In the context of library science, cataloging is the process of creating metadata representing information resources. Generally speaking, lgbtDB should not be directly used for cataloging purposes if other vocabularies or thesauri created specifically for cataloging purposes are also available, such as the Library of Congress Subject Headings or the Homosaurus. If there is a subject, topic, or concept you wish to tag using lgbtDB, it is recommended to only use those entities that are listed as instances of concept, which represents a SKOS concept. This is due to a relatively hard separation in lgbtDB for representing SKOS concepts and OWL classes. Please note, the decision to begin separating these entities was made on 11 April 2025, over a year into the process of creating lgbtDB, meaning many entities are not fully or correctly separated. This is another reason why we recommend using other vocabularies where possible.
